I just love Emma Watson!

The star of Harry Potter discusses being modest.

“I find the whole concept of being ‘sexy’ embarrassing and confusing. If I do an interview with photographs people desperately want to change me – dye my hair blonder, pluck my eyebrows, give me a fringe. Then there’s the choice of clothes. I know everyone wants a picture of me in a mini-skirt. But that’s not me. I feel uncomfortable. I’d never go out in a mini-skirt. It’s nothing to do with protecting the Hermione image. I wouldn’t do that. Personally, I don’t actually think it’s even that sexy. What’s sexy about saying, ‘I’m here with my boobs out and a short skirt, have a look at everything I’ve got?’ My idea of sexy is that less is more. The less you reveal the more people can wonder.”

Earrings from Nordstrom!

I don’t think anyone would have truly noticed, but I wanted to share something that is special to me personally.

On my mission I cannot wear earrings longer than one inch so I went looking around on the Nordstrom website. A few weeks ago I bought two pairs of earrings.

The first set…
($6, from Nordstrom)

The humming birds on these will always remind me of my mom’s mother. I loved her so much. Among other things, she loved humming birds. She had crystal ones that would hung in her windows. When I wear them I  remember the kindness and goodness she showed me. I remember going to the temple and being baptized for my grandmother. I could feel her there, and everyone there could as well. There is such great joy in this gospel and this will remind me why I am serving.

The second pair….
($8, from Nordstrom.com)
These are dahlias. When I bought them I didn’t realize the significance they would have. My grandfather would plant dahlias every year. Hundreds. It is little wonder where my love for this  flower comes from. My grandfather passed away a few days ago. And even though I am sad, I am so glad he is moving forward.

These earrings may just seem like simply earrings to other people, but they are reminders to me of wonderful grandparents that are now in the spirit world. Today, and later when I am in Missouri,  I can pray for the missionaries in the spirit world who are teaching my grandfather. It is funny how so small a thing as earrings can truly put into perspective the importance of the work I will be doing in Missouri.

Called to Serve

I recieved my call on the 22nd of September. I opened my call at 6:30 mountain time, while group skyping my family.

“Dear Sister Castellano:
You are hereby called to serve as a missionary of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. You are assigned to labor in the Missouri Independence Mission. In addition to your calling to share the gospel, you will be assigned to serve in the Independence Visitor’s Center. It is anticipated that you will serve for a period of 18 months.
You should report to the Provo Missionary Training Center on Wednesday, February 1, 2012. While at the Missionary Training Center, you will receive special training in conducting tours. You will prepare to preach the gospel in the English language. Your assignment may be modified according to the needs of the mission president.”
Obviously there is more to the letter but this is the general where and when my call is.
Funny thing is that my address was incorrect! Somehow the computer changed it to 230 West instead of 350 West. The bishop was worried I wouldn’t receive my call, because they normally come in one Wednesday. I received mine on a Thursday because of the address mishap.
